MSc Marketing Communications, 2012

I’d already been working for almost five years in advertising and wanted to focus my skills on communications. I read about the course at London South Bank University. I knew that I would learn about all the disciplines of marketing communications, which would help me to become a specialist. Studying in London has taught me a very different skill set to the one I developed when studying in India. I am given support if I need it, but I also have responsibility for my own learning. London South Bank University has guided and helped me through the entire process of job hunting from helping me to write my CV, to referring me to job openings. The Faculty of Business has an excellent alumni network which has brought me a number of opportunities.

MBA, 2011

The MBA programme provided the broad overview of a number of management disciplines I needed to become a more proficient, knowledgeable and confident manager and the elective modules offered allowed me to pursue my own interests and work with lecturers who were expert in their fields. One of the highlights of the course was the opportunity to visit large and diverse companies on the European residential in Berlin and study their business models, financial profiles and talk to senior members of the management teams.

Diploma Craft Studies, National Bakery School, 2011

After securing part-time catering work with a friend I joined the Craft Studies course at LSBU to learn how to make the transition from domestic to commercial baker. I went into the Diploma uncertain about my cake decorating skills but the specialist teaching gave me confidence. I hope to continue my baking education with an internship before setting up my own catering business.

Achieving a distinction in the Masters in International Finance and Investment and then getting a job working for a top-tier Investment Bank in London, where I am specialising in the Trades of Credit Derivatives for Europe, Middle East and Asia, has been a dream come true for me. The Masters course broadened my professional skills set in every sense. The cherry on the cake was that we benefitted from high calibre lecturers for every module. BA Business Management, 2010

In making the decision to study for my degree, I was given an opportunity to re-examine what it was I wanted out of life. London South Bank University provided me with not only the means, but also the support needed to make the right decisions and choices for myself, whilst encouraging me to actively participate within the University. A lecturer within LSBU once said to me “students who partake in extracurricular activities tend to do better than those who don't”. His words stand true; I stood as Student Representative and was also elected President of the Sustainable Business Practices Society, and with the continuous support of lecturers I managed to achieve a 1st class Honours Degree in Business Management. I have decided to continue at LSBU and do my Masters in Education for Sustainability.

London South Bank University is truly a place to be what you want to be. Completing my studies with 1st class honours has put me in the best position to take on the challenges I will face in my career as well as in other areas of my life. I believe that my employability has been greatly enhanced through the skills I gained whilst studying. I was not only encouraged to excel academically, I was also given the opportunity to take part in extracurricular activities such as being a student representative and student ambassador, and co-founding the first entrepreneurship society. LSBU provides fertile ground for creativity and proactiveness, and it is a place to really explore your potential.

BSc Business Information Technology, 2009

I returned to LSBU in September 2008 to complete an undergraduate degree in Business Information Technology after escaping 10 years previously while studying for a combined honours degree. After I left I started working as a contract web developer. I thought that education did not have much to offer me, especially after authoring the book “Implementing Electronic Documents and Records Management Systems”, which was published in August 2007. But how wrong I was! It was only after returning to LSBU that I realised that the academic career path is the one which suits me most. I have now returned to LSBU once again to undertake an MPhil/PhD researching IT Strategies in West Africa.

MSc in International Business & Finance, 2009

I decided to pursue an MSc in International Business and Finance at LSBU after learning about its collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz, Germany. Coming from Moldova, a country that has yet to develop a sound financial system, this seemed like a unique chance to experience studying in the two countries that have the most well developed financial markets within Europe. My plan was to gain a UK Masters degree and then get professional experience working in London. Therefore, after finishing my Masters degree I got a job working for Bloomberg, before moving to the investment bank JPMorgan. I am grateful to all the teachers at LSBU who contributed to my knowledge of finance.

MA in Management, 2008

The LSBU MA in Management certainly broadened my skills and knowledge and the MA being accredited by the Chartered Management Institute was a huge plus. Since graduating, I have certainly found that I now have access to career options that would have previously been closed to me. LSBU was one of the few universities where flexibility in the course structure allowed me to complete my MA whilst at the same time being in a demanding full time job.

BSc Internet Computing, 2008

Completing my BSc in Internet Computing at LSBU (and winning a prize for my final year project) has clearly boosted my career opportunities. Not only were the subjects taught very interesting, but also the staff at LSBU gave me the right tools and knowledge to be able to constantly improve my skills and cope with the fast moving field of web technology. After I graduated, it did not take me long to get the kind of job I was looking for - as a web consultant, based in Paris.

Studying at LSBU was a great and very valuable experience for me. From the very first meeting with my course director, I was pleased how helpful and supportive she was. Any time I had a question or needed a professional advice she was ready to help and provide me with all necessary information. I am really grateful to her. I would like to also say that quality of teaching at LSBU is amazing.
